Ionic/ Covalent Bonding?

Can someone please explain the different types of diagrams structures you can make for these...i know there are lewis diagrams and structures, but my teacher has been drawing all knids of different ones and it doesn't make sense..which diagrams do you draw for ionic bonds and which ones for covalent?
